Dogs live in the hear and now. Like all of us, they remember punishment faster then reward. You must punish a dog wile the dog is in the action. Punishment after the fact will only confuse your animal. Go buy a punching bag to scream at when the dog messes up, but don't yell at the dog

The best punishment for a behavior is to ignore the animal. I find crates are best for this, as they stop behaviors like biting, which is hard to ignore. Simply scoop up puppy, put puppy in crate, and leave puppy there for about five minutes. Repeat as necessary. This does not apply to having accidents inside however!
